A Sunday in the Bar!

So I worked this sunday, which I do not usually, but I had to trade shifts so my children would not have to stay home alone...JUST KIDDING. Anyway, I knew sundays were not a big night for the bar,and tonight I had a total of 4 customers.
One of those was the very famous Dirty Don. I was graced with his presence for yet the 3rd day in a row. So as he talked about his tooth that was bothering him I also got to partake in watching him dig at it with an umbrella toothpick. What he did with the umbrella was the icing on the cake. He stuck it in a small vase with roses in it. Why do people think they can pick at their teeth and then leave their picker either on the table, or better yet, in a vase with flowers?
My 2nd customer of the day was a gal that was traveling on the greyhound  bus, which is an experience in itself. She had an 11 hour ride south ahead of her, all because her flight got cancelled and she would not be able to get another until wednesday. So needless to say she wanted a  whole bottle of wine but did not bring the cash for it, so she had to settle for 2 glasses to hopefully put her to sleep on the bus.
My 3rd and 4th were at the same table....so really I had 3 tables. Two nice ladies that I really have nothing interesting to say about.

BUT... I did have to fire an employee tonight. This was a long time coming for him. He is a nice guy but too many years of drug abuse have left his brain very cloudy. This is a guy who starts his shift at 6 and by 730 wants a smoke break. He forgot orders, was and air head, and worst of all wore petruli oil (that word is not even in spell check but sound it out and you know what I am talking about) No offense, but that stuff stinks. I dont know what was worse, that smell or his severe Body odor. Which I brought to his attention often.Ok so back to the story, this could not have gone better! I told him we just did not have the hours for him so we would have to let him go. He says " Oh, no problem, I can get unemployment,
right?" Just so you know, the kid works about 8-10 at the most, hours a week. Can you even get unemployment for that? Which is exactly what I said to him. But all and all it was the easiest firing I have ever had to do.

I can't even hear myself think!

Today has been one of those days as a mom where I think  I am slowly losing my mind. Complete and utter chaos is all I hear. Some are giggles, some are growls, but the bad ones are the screams. The ones where you know someone is being provoked or slightly injured.
The ones where when the sound hits your ears you instantly feel you blood pressure rise.
And the ones that bring this voice out of your mouth that would startle anyone within a city block. That is the Voice that when my husband hears it from outside his office he knows he better go help his wife.
But then there are the times, like right now as I am typing, that even though I can barely hear myself think, they are playing with each other!!

Where did these kids come from?

So one of my favorite customers was in last night. Why is he my favorite you ask? Well he is pleasant, nice, and is an amazing tipper! His only down fall is his kids. I can't even believe they came from him. He is very mild mannered, non boastful, and then he has these kids that always talk about how great they are and what great things they do. Don't get me wrong, they are nice, but they, especially the son wears me out with his constant jabbering. Anything I have done or talked about, he has done or know someone who has. So all of us bartenders ask the same question "where did these kids come from?"

Quote of The Day!

"My husband is like a sex camel, we can do it tuesday and wednesday, and then he can go 17 days till he wants it again."

Dirty Don

This posting is going to highlight one of my regular customers that I have nicknamed "Dirty Don". Don has been coming into the bar for about 3 years. Every Friday, (my day) and sometimes he hits other weekdays, if I am lucky I am not working. Don was given the name "Dirty Don" , simply because he is a sick old fart. A common phrase Don can expect to hear from me is "shut up Don". Trust me, sometimes he needs it! Don is unknowing of his name, he knows we think he is a sick old fart, but he never knew we called him "Dirty Don" until I ran into him outside the restaurant with my 2 boys, and at that time baby girl.(I was out on maternity leave, and yes I did bar tend whilt pregnant) Anyways we see Don walking up an my oldest blurts out is that "Dirty Don"? I tried to talk over him thinking that Don did not hear, but I am pretty sure he did. So now its just common knowledge that Don is "Dirty Don"

Our youth.

Why do most people work? To get money. So if you dont have kids, a house payment or even rent, why do you work? Well I have figured it out! ALCOHOL! There is a select few in the Youth category that I work with that live at home, do not attend school, and barely work. I dont think they could even make enough money to pay for car insurance and gas. But by golly they can afford alcohol. And not the cheep stuff either! It must be nice to have no cares in the world except "what do I drink tonight?"
